Simple macOS apps that just work

Not every tool needs a dashboard or subscription. Some of the most useful ones on the Mac App Store do one job cleanly and stay out of the way.

A few solid examples:

  • Amphetamine – keeps your Mac awake for a set time, while an app is running, or under other simple triggers
  • Magnet – snaps windows to halves, quarters, or thirds with a drag or keyboard shortcut
  • Maccy – lightweight clipboard history that lets you quickly find and paste anything you’ve copied
  • The Unarchiver – opens RAR, 7z, and other formats macOS doesn’t handle by default
  • Tot – a tiny menu-bar notes app that stays simple and always available

These kinds of utilities solve a specific daily friction and then disappear until you need them again.
